EchoStar's rebrand from SATS to ECHO on Nasdaq reads like a $41.38B balance sheet trying to disguise itself as a tech disruptor. The company's revenue clocks in at $3.67B, but the net loss of $146.9M is the real headliner-like ordering a $200 DISH Deli platter and discovering the delivery driver took the change. Meanwhile, the operating income of $392.8M is a rounding error against $35.70B in liabilities, proving that even a satellite empire can't outrun its own debt gravity. The stock ticker swap cost $0 in actual innovation but bought a fresh coat of futuristic paint (source: official product/news rail, https://www.echostar.com/news).

EchoStar Corporation, the parent company behind DISH Network, Boost Mobile, Sling TV and Hughes Network Systems, still markets itself as a technology innovator serving millions of rural Americans. Yet the company’s 10-Q for the quarter ended 31 March 2026 shows $3.67 billion of revenue, a $146.9 million net loss attributable to parent, and diluted earnings per share of -$0.51 on 289 million diluted shares outstanding. The platform story still sparkles; the cash story is parked in a rural driveway.

The company’s product rail insists that DISH delivers “cutting edge technology” to millions of rural households, a claim supported by official brand pages and imagery of a red DISH logo against a starry sky. The same pages showcase the broader EchoStar family, which includes Boost Mobile, Sling TV and HughesNet, each presented as a revolutionary connectivity brand. The visuals are slick; the numbers are not. Revenue of $3.67 billion may sound large, but it sits alongside $35.7 billion of liabilities, leaving stockholders’ equity at $5.63 billion and cash at $1.34 billion-enough to fund operations for one more quarter before the company needs to refinance, issue, or pivot.

EchoStar’s latest 10-Q shows operating income of $392.8 million, net cash provided by operating activities of $238.3 million, and capital expenditure of $133.4 million. Research and development expense for the quarter was $16 million, roughly the price of a single satellite transponder lease. Inventory fell $59.4 million year-over-year, a rare bright spot in an otherwise cash-burning quarter. The company’s capital-light R&D line contrasts with the heavy liabilities on its balance sheet, leaving the impression that EchoStar is selling connectivity while its finance function is still clearing the driveway of old dishes.

Between 14 and 22 July 2026, four insiders filed Form 4 disclosures showing purchases and sales of EchoStar shares. On 14 July alone, three executives filed sales ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 shares each, while a separate filing showed a beneficial owner purchasing shares via a Schedule 13D/A filed on 22 July. The dollar value of these trades is immaterial next to the $3.67 billion revenue headline, yet the optics of insider selling amid a quarterly loss are harder to ignore. The Schedule 13D/A disclosure itself is a disclosure event, not an investment thesis. (source: SEC EDGAR filings for CIK 0001415404, URLs listed in source manifest)

EchoStar changed its Nasdaq ticker symbol from SATS to ECHO on 24 June 2026, a rebrand intended to “better represent the company’s expanding lines of business.” The symbol change did not change the company’s diluted loss per share, its $35.7 billion liability stack, or the fact that its cash position of $1.34 billion is the most liquid asset on a balance sheet dominated by $41.38 billion of total assets. The rebrand is cosmetic; the cash requirement is concrete. (source: EchoStar Newsroom, ticker change announcement dated 2026-06-24)

The company’s newsroom and brand pages consistently position EchoStar as a technology innovator, but the SEC filings tell a different story. The company’s 10-Q for the quarter ended 31 March 2026 is the latest filed financial document, and it shows a company that is still generating operating income but posting a net loss, still holding cash but levered to the hilt, and still trading under a ticker designed to evoke echo-the perfect metaphor for a company whose balance sheet keeps repeating the same cash-burning verse. The evidence set is thin: one quarter of filed numbers, a handful of insider filings, and a ticker change. What is missing is a deeper earnings release, segment-level cash flows, or a credible path to cash-flow positivity. Until then, the platform story and the balance sheet remain out of sync. Methodology

This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
