What changed for XBiotech Inc. today
XBiotech Inc. is burning $9 million of operating cash each quarter while waiting for its two lead antibody programmes to finish early-stage trials, with a third shingles programme prepping for an IND submission. The company’s latest SEC filing shows $115.5 million in cash and equivalents at 31 March 2026, a pile that management says will fund “several major inflection points,” starting with completion of those clinical studies.
The True Human™ antibody discovery platform is the polished story: IL-1α antibodies for oncology and rheumatology, and Hutrukin, a stroke therapy now in Phase I. The problem is that none of these programmes have produced revenue, and the only income booked in the quarter was a $9 million Employee Retention Credit from the IRS-broadly a government grant, not a product sale. XBiotech’s cash burn therefore runs at roughly $9 million per quarter, with research and development eating $5.2 million of that figure.
By the numbers: net loss attributable to the parent was $-5.5 million in the March quarter; operating loss $-6.3 million; diluted loss per share $-1.49 for the year ended 31 December 2025 on 30.5 million diluted shares; negative operating cash flow of $-9.0 million in the quarter; zero capex for the same period; and total assets of $139.8 million against liabilities of $4.8 million. Shareholders’ equity stands at $135.0 million, a figure that rises only because the company has not yet spent its cash on hard assets. The board’s three charters-audit, compensation, and nominating-are posted on the website, but the charter that would turn science into sales remains unwritten.
XBiotech’s product pipeline is real but early. The company confirms a Phase I healthy-volunteer study for Hutrukin (stroke therapy) and states that an anti-IL-1α antibody is in clinical studies in oncology and rheumatology, with a “unique anti-IL-1α antibody” also in Phase I. A shingles programme has non-clinical data ready for IND submission, according to the company’s newsroom. What is missing is any disclosed sales, partner revenues, or regulatory approvals. The company also disclosed that the Employee Retention Credit accounted for most of the “other income” line in the March quarter, a one-off benefit rather than a repeatable revenue stream.
The stock trades as a micro-cap biotech with thin public float and no meaningful secondary liquidity evident in the filings. The company’s latest S-8 registration statement (11 March 2026) shows a continuation of share-based compensation practices, which can dilute existing holders as the option pool expands. There is no disclosure of buybacks or dividends, and capital expenditure remains at zero, reinforcing that XBiotech is still in the “spend to prove” phase rather than the “harvest cash” phase. The board’s governance charters are available on the website, but the charter that converts clinical success into product revenues is still in draft form.
For context on pipeline stage and claims, see the company’s newsroom page “advancing infectious disease innovation” and the Phase I stroke study disclosure. The company’s SEC filings are the primary source for financials and operational runway, with no analyst estimates or pricing benchmarks supplied in the evidence.

Methodology
This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
