What changed for Synopsys Inc today
Synopsys reported $2.28 billion in revenue for the quarter ending 30 April 2026, a figure that sounds impressive until you notice the net income was a pedestrian $17.1 million and the diluted earnings per share landed at $0.09. The cash and short-term investments totalled $2.48 billion, which is the kind of rainy-day fund that keeps CFOs awake at night worrying about where to park it, not whether it exists. Operating income of $120.4 million sat beneath a $700.1 million R&D line, a ratio that suggests Synopsys is spending like a scale-up even though it’s a $46.89 billion-asset giant.
Synopsys calls itself the ‘leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems,’ and it does dominate the electronic design automation (EDA) market that powers chips in smartphones, wearables, and self-driving cars. The company’s 2025 acquisition of Ansys added broad engineering simulation tools, and on 17 June 2026 Synopsys rolled out its first ‘Multiphysics Fusion’ solutions aimed at replacing overdesign with co-design. Market-leading customers including Cisco, MediaTek, NVIDIA, and Samsung Foundry were cited as early adopters, yet the filing does not quantify any revenue uplift from the new product line. NASA’s Artemis programme is meanwhile using Synopsys tools to simulate spacesuit layers and RF signal behaviour on the Moon, giving the brand an undeniably cool halo while the income statement stays earthbound.
The 10-Q shows total assets of $46.89 billion against liabilities of $16.41 billion, leaving stockholders’ equity at $30.48 billion. Cash generated from operations clocked in at $1.49 billion, while capex was $89.5 million and inventory rose by $85.8 million. Diluted shares outstanding totalled 192.1 million, up from prior quarters, and the company’s own AI chatbot on its website cautions that answers ‘may be incorrect or incomplete,’ which is the closest Synopsys gets to a mea culpa on its marketing claims. The filing does not include formal segment-level revenue splits or forward guidance, so investors are left to guess how much of the $2.28 billion is now flowing from the Ansys acquisition versus legacy EDA and IP products.
If you want a chart, the stock trades on Nasdaq under the symbol SNPS with a market-cap north of $100 billion, but the evidence rail here does not supply intraday levels, volume spikes, or relative performance; those live on your platform of choice. What the filings do supply is a giant engineering platform that is simultaneously building the future and warehousing a lot of inventory while its own chatbot hedges its bets.
Synopsys’ latest 10-Q is heavy on balance-sheet heft and light on new-product revenue detail, which is the reverse of the polished story the company tells on its website and in press releases. The gap between the AI-powered brochure and the $0.09 EPS is the tension that matters. Until Synopsys publishes segment revenue for the Ansys integration or quantifies early Multiphysics Fusion traction, the quarter’s headline numbers will do the talking.

Methodology
This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
