What changed for AVITA Medical, Inc. today
AVITA Medical Inc. (RCEL) is a medical-device outfit best known for RECELL®, a “Spray-On Skin™ Cells” therapy designed to accelerate healing in burn and full-thickness skin defects. The product is clinically differentiated but commercially underwhelming: for the three months ended March 31 2026, the firm booked $19.3 million in revenue, split between $9.4 million from RPK sales and $187,000 from lease income on the RPD device. No single customer accounted for more than 10% of revenue, so the top-line is a mosaic rather than a power law, and the quarter still produced a $10.6 million net loss on $19.3 million of sales. The operating loss was $8.8 million, cash used in operations was $10.1 million, and the firm exited March with $8.3 million in cash and $74.7 million of liabilities against $51.5 million of assets, leaving shareholders’ equity at negative $23.2 million.
The company’s other product, PermeaDerm, is a transparent, variable-porosity primary dressing pitched as a return-to-daily-life aid, but the March filing shows it contributed just $187,000 in lease revenue-about 1% of the quarter’s total. AVITA’s own product pages and images tout speedy healing, but the balance-sheet reality is that the firm is haemorrhaging cash while selling hope by the millilitre. Regenity manufactures the Cohealyx® dermal matrix that AVITA brands and sells, a reminder that value can accrue outside the issuer’s own P&L.
AVITA’s latest 10-Q (period ended March 31 2026) records $19.3 million in revenues, a $10.6 million net loss, an $8.8 million operating loss, $8.3 million in cash, and $74.7 million in liabilities, leaving shareholders’ equity at negative $23.2 million. Research and development expense was $5.6 million; capital expenditure was a trivial $19,000; inventory net was $6.1 million; and the diluted loss per share was 35 cents on 30.5 million weighted shares. The March filing also confirms no single customer exceeded 10% of revenue in either the 2026 or 2025 periods. The company’s diluted share count sits at 30.5 million, up from prior periods as the firm continues to finance its cash burn with equity issuance.
On June 8 2026, AVITA filed an automatic shelf registration (424B5) allowing the sale of up to $75 million in new shares, a move that reads less like confidence and more like triage. The prospectus notes Regenity’s Cohealyx® is FDA-cleared and collagen-based, yet AVITA’s own filings show the firm’s quarterly revenue remains anchored to single-digit millions and the lease income from the RPD device is rounding-error small. If the market were a burn patient, the prognosis would read: “needs another round of skin grafts and a better business model.”
The company’s filings and investor materials depict a firm with a technically differentiated product portfolio but a balance sheet that looks like it has been through a controlled demolition. The latest 10-Q and the June shelf filing together tell a story of a company that can innovate but cannot yet monetise at scale, a gap that shows up in the numbers: revenue flat year-over-year at ~$19 million, losses deepening, cash haemorrhaging, and equity eroding. The operating reality is that AVITA’s core therapy is clinically interesting but commercially marginal, and the firm’s survival now hinges on either securing durable reimbursement, finding a partner with deeper pockets, or persuading the market to fund another round of spray-on equity.
What the filings do not show is a clear path to sustained profitability, a durable reimbursement framework, or a customer concentration that would suggest pricing power. The absence of any customer above 10% of revenue underscores a fragmented commercial footprint, while the $75 million shelf suggests the firm is preparing to dilute shareholders further unless revenue growth accelerates markedly. The company’s product pages and images remain aspirational, but the 10-Q numbers are a cold splash of saline on the burn site.

Methodology
This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
