What changed for Ouster, Inc. today
Ouster, Inc. just filed a quarter where it shipped $48.6 million of lidar sensors and software but still managed to lose $17.5 million, while burning $7.3 million of operating cash. The company’s balance sheet shows $381.5 million of assets, $78.7 million in cash, and $94.4 million in short-term investments, but $29.9 million of that cash is tied up in inventory-up $3.7 million this quarter. The board, meanwhile, has been busy: three share issuances in July alone, raising fresh capital while the stock price drifts below the $10 mark it once dreamed of.
What Ouster sells is digital lidar: sensors that turn raw point clouds into spatial intelligence for smart spaces. The company’s newest product, Ouster Gemini, is pitched as an AI-enabled perception platform that detects, classifies, and tracks people and vehicles using lidar sensors alone. The pitch deck is full of neon renders of city streets bathed in lidar beams and executives nodding approvingly. Reality, however, is less photogenic. The latest 424B5 prospectus admits that while the software is a ‘core element of future growth,’ no revenue is yet booked from it. Meanwhile, the hardware side-OS1 Max Rev8-is shipping today, colourised, ruggedised, and priced to move, but the filing does not disclose how many units have left the warehouse.
The company’s R&D chew remains heavy at $16.1 million this quarter, which is less ‘bold innovation’ and more ‘keeping the lights on while hoping the market catches up.’ Revenue from contracts with customers, excluding assessed tax, was $48.6 million for the quarter ending 31 March 2026. Net income attributable to the parent was -$17.5 million, operating loss was -$19.2 million, and diluted EPS was -$0.28 on 61.8 million weighted average shares outstanding. Cash used in operating activities was -$7.3 million, and the company spent $2.6 million on property, plant, and equipment. Inventory, net, stood at $29.9 million, up $3.7 million from the prior quarter. Stockholders’ equity attributable to the parent was $275.6 million, with liabilities of $105.9 million.
For a closer look at the company’s moving parts, follow the SEC filings on EDGAR. The filings are the only public source for the financials and operational metrics quoted here. The next 10-Q will show whether the inventory pile is shrinking or swelling, and whether the board’s colourful Rev8 Max units are flying off shelves or gathering dust in a carpark in San Francisco.
Ouster’s July shelf registration (S-3ASR) gives the board plenty of room to issue more shares, which is handy when your operating loss is $19.2 million and your diluted EPS is -$0.28. The cash pile buys time, but time isn’t free. The company’s burn rate remains the story, not the polished platform slides. Until the revenue from Gemini arrives or the Rev8 Max units ship in meaningful volume, the filings-and the cash runway-are the only things that matter.
The company’s product pages and press materials describe a future where lidar-powered perception drives smart cities, autonomous fleets, and retail analytics. The filings, however, describe a company that has yet to turn those promises into cash. The OS1 Max Rev8 is shipping today; the question is whether anyone is buying at scale. The filings do not say.
The board’s recent $150 million shelf registration (S-3ASR) adds dry powder, but dry powder doesn’t pay the bills. The next 10-Q will show whether the inventory build is intentional or a sign of unsold units. The next earnings call will show whether the market believes the story or prefers to wait for the receipts. For now, the only thing moving faster than the share count is the company’s burn rate.

Methodology
This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
