What changed for NorthWestern Energy Group, Inc. today
NorthWestern Energy Group, Inc. last published a 10-Q on 31 March 2026 that looks like a company that knows how to keep the lights on: revenues of $497.6 million, net income of $63.5 million, and diluted EPS of $1.03 on 61.6 million shares. Operating income clocked in at $114.1 million and cash from operations at $159.4 million, all comfortably ahead of recent capital spending on plant and equipment ($116.1 million). The group’s balance sheet shows $8.58 billion of assets versus $5.67 billion of liabilities, leaving $2.91 billion of shareholders’ equity-solid numbers for a regulated utility that prefers steady cash flows to moonshots.
What the 10-Q does not do is turn NorthWestern Energy into a renewable-energy darling overnight. The company’s actual product rail is still construction services for new builds, line relocations, and gas main extensions, as laid out on its public pages for business customers and construction contractors. A photograph on the Construction Services page shows workers in high-visibility vests-hardly the stuff of Silicon Valley hype cycles, but exactly the kind of image you want if your regulators care more about safe wires than solar roadmaps.
Equally revealing is the South Dakota financing manoeuvre: on 1 June 2026, NorthWestern Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary, issued $150 million of South Dakota First Mortgage Bonds under a Twenty-third Supplemental Indenture. The proceeds will fund capital expenditures, not a technology pivot, which is the polite way of saying that NorthWestern Energy’s capital structure remains rooted in bricks, mortar, and the occasional trench. The issuance was disclosed in an 8-K filed on 15 June 2026, complete with the customary trustee detail from The Bank of New York Mellon.
The group’s cash and cash equivalents were a modest $5.9 million at quarter-end, a figure that sits awkwardly against the “green future” slide decks. Inventories stood at $134.1 million, up $1.6 million from the prior period-again, the kind of detail that rarely makes the keynote stage but matters when regulators review rate-base additions. Diluted weighted average shares outstanding were 61.6 million, and the 10-Q carries no dividend declaration, only the usual utility commitment to “affordability and reliability.”
If you are hunting for sparkle, look elsewhere; if you want a regulated utility quietly printing cash while regulators applaud, NorthWestern Energy checks the box.

Methodology
This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
