Market Wit preview

Thirty-eight million dollars is the research and development line Linde reported for the three months to 31 March 2026, set against $8.78bn of revenue booked in the same quarter. The ratio tells you what kind of company this is: not a lab chasing the next molecule, but a builder of oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen plants that sits on a customer's site and pipes the product over the fence. The filing is blunt about the model, noting that Linde constructs plants on or adjacent to these customers' sites and supplies the product directly by pipeline. Glamour is not the point. The point is the meter running on the other side of the wall. A business that turns $8.78bn of sales into $2.44bn of operating income does not need to reinvent itself every quarter; it...

Linde PLC closed its first quarter of 2026 with $8.78bn of revenue and $1.86bn of net income attributable to the parent, for diluted earnings of $3.98 per share across 466.3m diluted shares, all reported in the 10-Q for the period ending 31 March 2026 on SEC EDGAR. Operating income for the quarter came in at $2.44bn. Those figures, not any product launch, are the spine of the file: this is an industrial gases business whose results turn on volumes, plant utilisation and the discipline of long contracts.

The operating model is described plainly in the same 10-Q. Linde constructs plants on or adjacent to customers' sites and supplies the product directly by pipeline, and it has elected the practical expedient for measuring progress towards a performance obligation, recognising revenue as it gains the right to invoice each customer, which generally corresponds with product delivery. The filing also references the long-running Amur GPP work, where Nipigas and Linde Engineering executed an EPSS subcontract for engineering, procurement and site services back in December 2015. The cash flow underneath supports the model: $2.24bn of operating cash against $1.34bn of payments to acquire property, plant and equipment, leaving roughly $0.9bn before financing.

The balance sheet is heavy and stable. Assets stood at $86.31bn, liabilities at $46.22bn and stockholders' equity attributable to the parent at $38.57bn, with $3.96bn of cash and cash equivalents and $2.08bn of inventory, the latter up $48.0m in the quarter. Research and development was a modest $38.0m, in keeping with a builder of physical capacity rather than a research house. The 8-K dated 1 May 2026 confirms the company issued a press release setting out results for the quarter ended 31 March 2026, furnished as Exhibit 99.1.

Financing activity is the freshest hard development. An 8-K dated 13 May 2026 states that the 2028 Notes, the 2030 Notes and the 2036 Notes were issued under a Subscription Agreement dated 11 May 2026, placed through named bookrunners and other managers. There is no chart route in the supplied rail, so this file makes no claim about price levels, support or moving averages; the verifiable mechanism here is the SEC EDGAR submissions and companyfacts feed, which is where every figure above is sourced.

Two 11-K filings from 16 June 2026 add a smaller, human layer: auditors examined the statements of net assets available for benefits of Linde Puerto Rico B.V., and one notes participant loans presented net of delinquent loans of $1,656,384 and $1,468,439 at 31 December 2025 and 2024. A Form SD landed on 28 May 2026, with Form 3 and Form 4 insider filings on 21 May, 18 May and 10 June 2026.

What the rail has not parsed matters as much as what it has. The supplied evidence does not break out segment revenue, dividend or buyback figures, forward guidance, or geographic detail beyond the named Amur reference. A reader who wants to judge momentum would need the segment tables, the dividend and repurchase lines, and management's outlook commentary, none of which appear in this evidence set.
