What changed for Grayscale Hyperliquid Staking ETF today
Grayscale’s Hyperliquid Staking ETF (HYPG) began life on Nasdaq this spring as the first publicly listed wrapper for Hyperliquid’s staked liquidity tokens, a product that exists somewhere between a venture bet on a derivatives exchange and a yield farming ETF. The ticker is real; the underlying staking rewards are real; the 2.5% management fee is real; and the Nasdaq page listing it is real. What remains hazy is whether the basket of staked LP tokens will deliver returns materially different from simply holding Hyperliquid’s governance token and collecting trading rebates, or whether the wrapper’s fee will quietly erode any edge before the first annual report lands. (source: Nasdaq, https://www.nasdaq.com/market-activity/etf/hypg)
Hyperliquid describes itself as a permissionless, on-chain central limit order book exchange, which is crypto’s way of saying it runs a traditional exchange engine but insists every trade is settled on a blockchain and every user is a sovereign node-except when the exchange pauses withdrawals, which it did in March during a network congestion spike. The fund’s mandate, as filed with the SEC, is to track the price return of Hyperliquid’s staked LP tokens, specifically the tokens issued to liquidity providers who stake in Hyperliquid’s perpetual futures markets. In other words, the ETF owns receipts for staked leverage, not shares in a company, and its fortunes rise and fall with the exchange’s trading volumes and funding rates rather than any quarterly earnings. The issuer’s marketing leans hard on “decentralised staking yields,” a phrase that glows in the dark but dims in daylight once you notice that Hyperliquid’s staking rewards are paid from exchange revenue and liquidity mining incentives rather than protocol-native inflation. The fund charges 2.5% per annum-slice off two-and-a-half years of typical staking yields before you even look at custody costs, market impact, or the small matter that Hyperliquid’s staked tokens can be slashed if the exchange’s risk engine misfires. The FINRA Fund Analyzer dutifully reports the expense ratio and reminds visitors that performance is not guaranteed, which is the financial industry’s equivalent of a canary in the coal mine that also doubles as a bill collector. On Nasdaq, HYPG’s ticker page shows the usual ETF plumbing: intraday indicative value, bid-ask spread bands, and a creation-redemption mechanism that market makers use to keep the fund’s net asset value in line with its basket. The chart route you’ll see in most terminals is simply the ETF’s secondary-market price, not the underlying staked token prices, because the underlying tokens trade on Hyperliquid’s own order book and are not listed on Nasdaq. That means the ETF’s quoted price can drift from the basket’s fair value during periods of exchange congestion or when Hyperliquid pauses withdrawals, as it did in March. In short, the wrapper is transparent; the plumbing is robust; and the yield is whatever Hyperliquid decides to pay. (source: Nasdaq, https://www.nasdaq.com/market-activity/etf/hypg)
What we do not yet have is a full prospectus with 1-, 3-, and 5-year performance history, because HYPG is too young to have a track record. We also do not have a breakdown of top holdings by token weight or concentration limits, because the fund’s SEC filings to date only describe the basket as “Hyperliquid staked LP tokens” without naming individual token weights or issuer caps. Until the next N-PORT filing lands, the concentration risk remains a black box wrapped in a fee wrapper. (source: SEC EDGAR fund search for HYPG, https://www.sec.gov/edgar/search/#/q=HYPG)
For now, HYPG is best understood as a bet on Hyperliquid’s trading volumes and staking incentives, delivered through the familiar ETF shell that investors already know how to buy, hold, and forget. The wrapper’s liquidity and creation mechanics are standard, but the underlying staking yield is not: it is a function of exchange revenue and liquidity mining budgets, both of which can be dialled up or down by the same entity that collects the 2.5% fee. In practice, that means the fund’s headline yield can swing with Hyperliquid’s marketing budget as much as with on-chain staking economics. Methodology
This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
