What changed for Robinhood Markets Inc. today
Robinhood Markets Inc. filed its latest 10-Q on 2026-03-31, and the headline numbers look like a fintech success story: revenue of $1.07 billion, net income attributable to parent of $350 million, and diluted earnings per share of $0.38. Behind those figures sits $5.01 billion in cash and cash equivalents, alongside $45.47 billion in total assets and $35.79 billion in liabilities, leaving stockholders’ equity at $8.57 billion as of the prior quarter. The company also reported net cash provided by operating activities of $2.04 billion in the same quarter, a figure that would make any mature bank blush and any high-growth fintech executive reach for a bonus slide. Yet the 10-K for 2025 shows research and development spending of $355 million, which is either a commitment to innovation or a very expensive way to keep the marketing team busy-both are plausible.
Robinhood still describes itself as a ‘global leader in financial services offering retail brokerage, crypto, advisory, digital banking services, and private markets access to a new generation of investors,’ a pitch that sounds less like a regulated broker-dealer and more like a Silicon Valley slide deck. The product rails are real enough: commission-free stock trading, options, ETFs, and crypto within a single app, plus referral schemes that promise ‘five free stocks’ for every friend you rope in. The UK arm even onboards customers and hands the margin business to Robinhood Securities, LLC, which is the fintech equivalent of a restaurant that serves only appetisers and then outsources the mains to a different kitchen.
The company’s 40-6B filing insists that ‘brokerage and retirement accounts’ and ‘investment advisory services’ are its core, which is like calling a gold rush a ‘yellow rock monetisation strategy’-technically accurate, but the colour of the rock does not change the scale of the claim. The filing also notes that Robinhood believes ‘persons or entities whom Robinhood has engaged on retainer to provide services’ constitute a material part of its ecosystem, which is corporate speak for ‘we pay consultants a lot and hope they bring in clients.’ The 40-6B does not quantify that spend, because consultants, like hope, are not line items on a 10-Q.
On the governance front, Robinhood’s 8-K from 2026-06-26 announced the appointment of a new Chief Accounting Officer, a role previously held at T-Mobile US, CBRE Group, and Gap Inc. The hire is framed as a vote of confidence in operational rigour, though the filing does not explain why the company needed a global controller with retail experience to fix a balance sheet that already holds $5 billion in cash. The new CAO’s prior employers were not broker-dealers, which is either a feature or a bug depending on whether you believe retail brokerage accounting is closer to wireless telecoms or to clothing retail.
The company’s product pages still promise to ‘put your money to work’ while its filings quietly disclose that $355 million of 2025 R&D spending went toward building what the marketing site calls ‘tools to help shape your financial future.’ The tools in question appear to include a user interface whose images are supplied to journalists, a referral programme that hands out free fractional shares, and a UK onboarding flow that passes margin customers to an affiliated entity. None of these offerings are line items in the 10-Q, which is a polite way to say the company’s revenue story and its product story are not the same document.
If Robinhood’s product marketing feels like a high-energy gym membership brochure, its latest SEC filings read like the disclaimer at the bottom of that brochure: ‘Limitations, risks and other costs apply, including contract fees when trading options.’ By 2026-07-23, the company had duly reminded the world that insiders filed Forms 4 on five separate days in mid-July, with transactions ranging from ‘acquired’ to ‘disposed,’ none of which moved the needle on the cash pile that still sits at $5.01 billion. The board’s favourite sport-filing filing trail-remains the company’s most reliable team-building exercise.

Methodology
This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
