Fermi America's 11GW HyperGrid campus was supposed to make America's AI giants independent of the grid by 2026, but the balance sheet has more in common with a student flat share than a sovereign energy play. The company burned $188.7 million in the quarter to 31 March 2026, lost cash on operations, and still spent $441.2 million on plant that hasn't yet turned a watt for a paying customer. That's $729.9 million of red ink before you even count the $500 million MUFG loan that, while headline-friendly, is still just a promise to hand over turbines in crates. Fermi America’s HyperGrid™ campus is supposed to deliver 11 gigawatts of behind-the-meter power to America’s leading AI companies in “months, not years,” according to the glossy product page. Yet the most recent SEC filing shows the company burned $188.7 million in the quarter to 31 March 2026 and still spent $441.2 million on turbines it has not yet commissioned. The gap between the render and the receipts is now measured in hundreds of millions. (source: 10-Q, period ending 2026-03-31, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2071778/000121390026076375/0001213900-26-000069-index.htm)

What Fermi actually does is build a private energy campus in Texas, combining nuclear, natural gas, solar, and battery storage to serve hyperscale data centres and AI clusters. The pitch is simple: cut latency, cut grid risk, and own the power stack. The first three Siemens SGT6-5000F turbines have been delivered to Port Freeport, Texas, the company says, and MUFG has pledged a $500 million equipment loan to finance the next phase. The problem is that neither the turbines nor the loan yet produce revenue; the balance sheet is still running on fumes. (source: Gigawatt Scale Power for Next-Gen AI | Fermi America, https://fermiamerica.com)

The numbers are unambiguous. Net income attributable to parent: minus $188.7 million. Operating loss: minus $166.2 million. Operating cash used in the quarter: minus $7.3 million. Cash and equivalents at quarter-end: $207.5 million. Long-term debt is not broken out in the 10-Q, but the MUFG facility is the only publicised credit line and is explicitly for equipment, not working capital. Diluted EPS is minus 30 cents on 629.8 million shares. In short, Fermi is still a capital-intensive start-up that has not yet flipped the switch on its flagship product. (source: 10-Q, period ending 2026-03-31, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2071778/000121390026076375/0001213900-26-000069-index.htm)

If you want a visual of the campus, Fermi’s website serves up a glossy aerial render and a product image of the Siemens turbines “in crate.” These images prove the company has a design team and a marketing budget; they do not prove the turbines are spinning, the campus is live, or that any hyperscaler has signed a long-term power purchase agreement. The site lists a community lead in Amarillo but no operating data centre tenants, no contracted MWh volumes, and no audited megawatt-hours delivered. Fermi has filed a flurry of 8-Ks in July, including a corrected 8-K/A on 21 July that tweaks earlier statements about board composition and insider holdings, and a 23 July 8-K announcing receipt of the first turbines. These filings are mechanically accurate but strategically thin: they document delivery, not commissioning; receipt, not revenue; and corrections, not progress. The Schedule 13G filed on 20 July shows insiders now hold roughly 15 % of the diluted float, up from the prior disclosure, which raises questions about timing rather than conviction. (source: FRMI 8-K, 2026-07-23, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2071778/000121390026080917/ea0298895-8k_fermi.htm; FRMI 8-K/A, 2026-07-21, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2071778/000121390026079998/ea0298708-8ka1_fermi.htm; FRMI SCHEDULE 13G, 2026-07-20, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2071778/000212347026000005/xslSCHEDULE_13G_X02/primary_doc.xml)

There is no evidence in the filings of signed power purchase agreements, contracted offtake volumes, or audited utilisation rates for the HyperGrid™ campus. The company’s official newsroom lists “Nuclear power at scale with natural gas, solar, and battery bridge” and “Private energy campus” as achievements, but the SEC filings do not translate those statements into financial metrics. Until turbines are synchronised to the grid and megawatt-hours are invoiced, the platform story remains a promise, and the balance sheet remains a ledger of costs. Methodology

This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
