ProShares doesn't do subtle. It does double. The UltraShort Euro ETF, EUO, promises to deliver two times the inverse of the daily performance of its benchmark-meaning if the euro drops 1%, EUO should rise 2%, before fees, which it then claws back with gusto. That's the glossy pitch: a concentrated, inverse play on Europe's currency without leaving your brokerage screen. The reality is a fund that must reset its exposure every day, like a diet that resets at midnight, meaning yesterday's 2% gain can tomorrow become a 2% loss if the euro bounces back. The issuer's marketing sells the thrill of a tactical wager; the filing sells the grind of daily compounding and fees. (source: EUO SEC EDGAR 10-K (2026-02-26)...

What changed for ProShares UltraShort Euro today

Open full report
EUO daily contextvalidated public digest6 source rail2026-08-07 02:40 UTC

EUO is not a euro trade; it’s a euro futures trade with leverage and a daily reset. The fund’s mandate is to deliver, before fees and expenses, two times the inverse of the daily performance of its benchmark-in practice, a stack of euro futures contracts and swaps that reset every trading day. That means if the euro falls 1% today, EUO should rise 2% at close, but tomorrow’s 1% euro gain could erase yesterday’s gain and then some, thanks to the drag of daily compounding and fees. The issuer sells it as a tactical hedge; the filing sells it as a mechanical, daily-rebalanced wager where the odds are stacked against the buyer.

Top holdings are not euros but euro-denominated futures and swap agreements, which the fund openly admits carry “imperfect benchmark correlation.” That’s regulator-speak for: your 2x inverse might not line up with reality because the futures curve, roll costs, and basis risk gum up the works. The fund’s expense ratio is 0.95% per year, which, over a decade, starts to look less like a fee and more like a vig the house takes every time the dealer shuffles the deck.

The ProShares lineup includes products like the Short VIX Short-Term Futures ETF, which the issuer markets as delivering half the inverse of the VIX’s daily move. The May 2026 press release touts that ProShares ETFs “seek daily investment results,” but it also includes the obligatory caution: “Carefully consider the investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses.” In short, the marketing sells the thrill, the filing sells the grind, and the investor pays the toll at both ends.

EUO’s holdings are not transparent in real time on Nasdaq’s ticker page, but the SEC EDGAR 10-K confirms the fund’s daily reset mechanism and the fact that it uses futures and swaps to achieve its -2x daily target. The Nasdaq listing shows the ticker is liquid enough to trade intraday, but liquidity does not erase the daily compounding risk baked into the mandate.

The fund’s 10-K also warns that ProShares ETFs are generally non-diversified and entail risks including derivatives, imperfect benchmark correlation, and leverage. The fine print does not promise that EUO will deliver -2x over anything longer than a single day. That is the price of admission for a fund that must reset every sunset.

For context, ProShares’ own fund analyzer tool at FINRA confirms that EUO’s expense ratio is 0.95% and that the fund’s objective is to achieve -2x the daily inverse of its benchmark. The tool does not, however, offer a guarantee that the fund will behave like a static -2x over anything longer than a trading session.

As for charting, Nasdaq’s EUO page provides the live quote and volume data, but it does not provide the underlying futures curve or roll schedule that drives the fund’s daily reset. Without that view, the chart is a snapshot of price, not a map of the gears turning beneath it.

Methodology

This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
