Institutional Market Wit ● Sourced Research File

ECARX Holdings Inc. likes to talk about "end-to-end" software for cars, but the balance sheet is stuck in first gear: $847.9 million of revenue in 2025 turned into a $66 million loss, and the company's total shareholders' equity is now -$282.7 million. That's not a rounding error; it's the difference between a polished pitch deck and the actual bank balance, and the difference is wearing a negative sign. The gap is so wide you could park a prototype LiDAR platform in it and still have room for the filing cabinets. ECARX Holdings Inc. filed its 2025 annual report on 17 July 2026 and the headline is brutal: $847.9 million in revenue produced a $66.0 million net loss and a negative $282.7 million in shareholders’ equity. The company burned $94.4 million of operating cash and still managed to spend $12.2 million on plant and equipment. The free-cash-flow story is not just weak; it’s negative, and the stockholders’ equity is underwater by every metric that matters.

ECARX describes itself as a provider of technology solutions for the automotive industry, with a software stack called Cloudpeak engineered to run across multiple operating systems and meet global functional-safety and data-security standards. The product pitch is polished: “end-to-end OS capabilities,” “global mobility ecosystems,” and “compliance with standards.” The filing language is sleek, the visuals show snappy 3D renders, and the press releases promise LiDAR and operating-system integrations. What the filings actually show is a company that is still writing software faster than it is shipping it, and burning cash faster than it is raising it.

The 20-F for the year ended 31 December 2025 lists revenue of $847.9 million, net loss of $66.0 million, operating loss of $54.8 million, and diluted EPS of -$0.20 on 338.7 million diluted shares. Cash and equivalents stood at $87.1 million, down from operations by $94.4 million. Liabilities totalled $945.9 million against assets of $662.4 million, giving shareholders’ equity of -$282.7 million. Research and development was $123.3 million, inventory rose $31.9 million to $62.3 million, and capex was $12.2 million. The filing notes that “the group has incurred significant losses” and warns of “substantial doubt” about its ability to continue as a going concern if it cannot raise additional capital or improve profitability.

The company remains free to point to its product pipeline-press releases in June and July 2026 tout a definitive agreement to acquire the full Flyme software business and a co-development pact with TPK on the ORCA LiDAR platform-but the filings do not yet show revenue, cash-flow, or margin evidence that these initiatives have turned the P&L. The July 2026 6-K confirms an upsized $130 million convertible-note offering and a supervised-accounting arrangement among ECARX Ecological, ECARX Technology, and Hubei Qiguang, which is management’s way of telling banks and auditors that incoming cash will be watched more closely than outgoing cash currently is.

The group’s product page and the accompanying image candidate are aspirational: a glossy render of a cockpit interface that looks like it belongs in a premium electric vehicle rather than in a company whose shareholders’ equity is negative. The visuals are professional; the balance sheet is not. If you are evaluating ECARX, read the 20-F first, then look at the product page second; the order matters.

The evidence rail does not supply segment-level margins, customer concentration, or order intake, so any claim about “strong demand” or “backlog” would be invention. What the filings do supply is the raw cash burn, the inventory build, the convertible financing, and the going-concern warnings. Those are the facts the market can trade on, not the marketing deck.

Methodology

This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
