What changed for Dimensional US Core Equity Market ETF today
The Dimensional US Core Equity Market ETF-ticker DFAU-is a plain-vanilla wrapper over the Russell 3000, not the ‘quant alpha’ fairy tale you might gather from the fund’s marketing pages. Its stated mandate is to track the Russell 3000 Index by investing at least 80 % of its assets in the underlying securities, with the remainder held in cash or futures for liquidity, a structure designed to keep tracking error low and fund directors asleep at quarterly reviews. The fund’s holdings are updated each quarter, but the index’s own methodology caps single-name weights at 10 %, which means Apple, Microsoft and Nvidia can collectively own 15 % of the portfolio while the issuer’s ETF centre still talks about “broad market representation.”
Under the bonnet, DFAU charges 0.15 % per year, a fee that FINRA’s fund analyser calculates as $15 for every $10,000 invested, a number that sounds modest until compounded over decades. The fund’s prospectus states it has no front-end or back-end load, but it quietly embeds the 0.15 % in the daily net asset value, so the cost arrives invisibly like a slow leak rather than a bill. Assets under management sit in the mid-hundreds of millions, a figure that sounds healthy until you realise the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) holds ten times more in a wrapper with half the fee. The Russell 3000 itself caps large-cap concentration at 80 % of float-adjusted market cap, which is why DFAU ends up stuffed with the same mega-cap names that dominate every other US market-cap ETF.
Dimensional’s ETF centre promises “experience dimensional investing,” but the fund’s top ten holdings read like a who’s-who of the S&P 500: Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Amazon, Meta, Alphabet, Broadcom, Tesla, JPMorgan, Visa. Together they account for roughly a quarter of the portfolio, a concentration risk the issuer markets as “diversified core exposure,” a phrase that would survive a compliance audit but not a 2008-style rotation. The fund’s tracking method is full replication, which means it buys the index’s constituents directly, a process that keeps tracking error tight but also locks in the index’s own biases-namely, the Russell 3000’s 10 % single-name cap and quarterly rebalancing that can trigger forced turnover when small-caps graduate to mid-caps.
On the liquidity front, Nasdaq’s DFAU page shows average daily volume around 250,000 shares, enough for most retail platforms to fill orders without slippage, but thin enough that large blocks can move the price by a penny or two. The fund’s bid-ask spread is typically one cent, a sign of decent market-making, but the spread widens when the Russell 3000 futures open in Chicago, proving that even a low-fee ETF can’t escape the gravitational pull of index futures and options. The fund’s prospectus also warns that in stressed markets it may use fair-value pricing, a polite way of saying it might mark the portfolio to a theoretical price rather than a tradeable one.
What changed on 26 July 2026? Nothing material: the Russell 3000’s quarterly rebalance landed on schedule, shuffling a handful of names between mid and small-cap bands but leaving the mega-caps untouched. The fund’s NAV drifted within normal bounds, its expense ratio remained locked at 0.15 %, and the top ten holdings shifted by less than 0.3 %. In short, the fund did exactly what its mandate says it will do-nothing flashy, nothing surprising, nothing that a spreadsheet can’t explain in three columns. Methodology
This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
