What changed for Cerence Inc. today
Cerence Inc. ended its fiscal third quarter with $64.2 million in revenue, but the 10-Q for the quarter ending 31 March 2026 also records an operating loss of $2.4 million, a net income of $1.7 million, and a diluted EPS of $0.04. The same filing shows $52 million of operating cash flow, $2.7 million of capex, and $1.0 million of inventory-numbers that read like a reality check on the company’s “connected services” and “hybrid agentic AI” marketing. The cash certainly flowed, but the profit did not.
What the company actually sells is conversational AI for cars, delivered via developer platforms, professional services, and audio AI toolkits. The product rails promise GenAI toolkits, multilingual domain agents, speech enhancement, and emergency-vehicle detection, but the revenue mix tells the quieter story: connected-services revenue rose to 23.9% of the quarterly total, up 7.6 points year-over-year, while the six-month slice slid to 16.6% from 20.4%, and professional services slipped 0.2 points to 17.6%. In short, the product story is real, but the scale story is still being written.
The balance sheet shows $617 million of assets against $458 million of liabilities, leaving $158.5 million of equity and $30.3 million of R&D expense in the quarter. The company’s 8-K filed on 2 July 2026 is a $1.0 million credit facility amendment-technically immaterial, but it lands in the same week the diluted share count climbed to 46.9 million, up from earlier filings, and EPS landed at $0.04. The 13G filings in May 2026 show unchanged ownership stakes, so the optics are tidy; the numbers less so.
There is no trading chart supplied in the evidence rail, so we decline to invent levels. The SEC EDGAR index and the companyfacts JSON can be read as a live data feed for readers who wish to verify the figures, but they do not supply chart endpoints. If you need an external price chart, pull it from your usual terminal with the ticker CRNC and verify the time-stamp against the 10-Q date of 7 May 2026.
The revenue figure is the highest single datapoint, but the operating loss and thin EPS are the facts that anchor the file. The product pages and service descriptions explain what the company sells, but the 10-Q and 8-K explain what the company collected. The gap between the two is the tension in today’s file. Evidence that would deepen the story includes segment-level revenues, customer concentration metrics, free cash flow for the trailing twelve months, and any named auto OEM contracts that materially shifted in the quarter.
The 10-Q also lists $1.0 million of inventory, a line that rarely moves in software companies but matters here because the firm markets embedded AI toolkits-suggesting either very light physical stock or a filing conservatism that hides the true footprint. The professional services slide of 0.2 points is small in percentage terms, yet it matters because the services page promises “global experts” and “native-language testing,” so any deceleration should be watched. Finally, the diluted share count crept up without a fresh 13D or 13G change, which invites curiosity about whether the board is quietly preparing for dilution rather than buybacks.

Methodology
This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
