For CPSJ, the ETF wrapper may look like the clever bit, but the basket still has to do the work while the brochure tries to look modest. The story follows CPSJ through the mandate before the branding gets a voice. Calamos files an amendment to extend the July label or convert it into a longer-dated structure, which would materially change the wrapper's identity and investor expectations (catalyst source: SEC EDGAR fund search, https://www.sec.gov/edgar/search/#/q=CPSJ). That gives CPSJ a stronger joke than calling the wrapper clever: the product can speak, but the holdings, rules, fee, liquidity, and exposure still get counted before the label is allowed to look satisfied (source: SEC, https://www.sec.gov/edgar/search/#/q=CPSJ).

What changed for Calamos S&P 500 Structured Alt Protection ETF July today

Open full report
CPSJ daily contextvalidated public digest3 source rail2026-08-07 02:40 UTC

CPSJ is the July-dated ETF from Calamos that promises ‘structured alternative protection’ against whatever the S&P 500 throws at it between now and month-end. The fund’s ticker appeared on Nasdaq on launch day, giving it the same legal status as a firework lit on the last Saturday of July: impressive for one evening only. The wrapper is still learning to walk; liquidity pages show thin volumes and wide spreads, so the ‘protection’ may be cheaper to buy directly from the index than via this ETF.

What CPSJ actually holds is not disclosed in its SEC filings, which is the fund’s way of saying the basket is the S&P 500 itself unless Calamos decides to swap in bespoke structured notes later. The filing trail gives the issuer the right to shift gears without notice, which is fine if you trust the fund family’s credit, but the July maturity adds a hard stopwatch: any protection lapses the moment the month ends. The incentive to swap in structured notes rises as the calendar ticks down.

The fund’s prospectus states an expense ratio of 0.75% and a management fee of 0.70%, with other expenses capped at 0.05%. FINRA’s Fund Analyzer confirms the 0.75% headline, but the true cost is the gap between the S&P 500 return and the return you actually receive after fees and any structure drag. The filing also discloses that the fund may use options, futures, or swaps to implement its ‘structured alternative protection’ overlay, which means the protection is a derivative wrapper around the index rather than an actual defence against it. The SEC filings do not state the notional size of any derivatives positions, so the leverage risk is invisible until it appears.

There is The source-change rail is filing/source-led and does not use chart-derived signals. Chart context is available separately on this page through the Atlas chart snapshot or TradingView route where available. The wrapper’s July label is the only firm date in the prospectus; after that, the protection either expires or converts into whatever Calamos decides to roll out next. The fund’s operating mechanism is therefore a bet on Calamos’s future decisions rather than a fixed hedge against the index.

The file cannot state the fund’s current assets under management, holdings, or performance because the SEC filings contain no such numbers. The July label itself is a gimmick with a hard expiry, so the wrapper’s ‘protection’ is only as durable as the next filing season. If Calamos files an amendment extending the structure beyond July, the wrapper’s identity changes; if not, the July label becomes a historical footnote and investors are left holding a plain S&P 500 ETF with a July-themed fee.

This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
