Invesco's BulletShares 2028 Corporate Bond ETF (ticker: BSCS) promises investors a tidy 2028 maturity date like a car warranty that expires just when the kids graduate, yet the fund itself is a rolling billboard of corporate IOUs whose average maturity is already sitting in the front row, checking its watch. It's not a time machine, just a calendar, and the calendar says the portfolio's weighted average maturity is a sprightly 5.4 years, which is the financial equivalent of turning up to a 10K in flip-flops and realising halfway that you've signed up for the marathon. The fund's polished brochures calls this "target maturity," which sounds like a retirement plan dreamed up by someone who last bought a bond when bell-bottoms were cool. (source...

Invesco’s BulletShares 2028 Corporate Bond ETF (BSCS) is a corporate-bond lorry with a destination date stamped on the tailgate: 2028. That date is the fund’s only headline that isn’t quietly slipping to the back seat.

The fund’s portfolio is a rotating carousel of US investment-grade corporate bonds whose weighted average maturity is already 5.4 years, which is the financial equivalent of turning up to a marathon in flip-flops and realising you’ve signed up for the 10K. The issuer calls this “target maturity,” a phrase that sounds like a retirement plan dreamed up by someone who retired in 1977. The fund’s mandate is to hold bonds maturing between 2027 and 2030, so the name is already two years old and the clock hasn’t started ticking in earnest. The SEC filing confirms the structure, but the filing doesn’t stop the issuer from sliding a glossy sheet across the table that makes a fee-bearing basket sound like a savings plan with a maturity guarantee.

The fund charges 0.10% per year-$10 for every $10,000 parked inside-which the issuer labels “cost-effective” and “tax-efficient,” a claim that is accurate only if you define cost-effective as “cheaper than most mutual funds but still more expensive than a high-return savings account.” The issuer’s product pages trumpet equal-weighted ETFs like QEW and RSP, where the fee is 0.20% and the portfolio is sliced into equal pieces, a transparency the BulletShares wrapper lacks. BSCS’s fee is half that of QEW, yet the BulletShares pitch is less about transparency and more about a date stamped on the lid. The issuer’s marketing copy is polished, the fund is plain, and the difference is the entire joke.

The fund’s AUM is above $1.2 billion, a tidy stack that pays the issuer’s bills without sounding like a blockbuster IPO. The Nasdaq quote page shows a tight bid-ask spread under 0.05%, which is the financial equivalent of a well-oiled door hinge: smooth, but you’d barely notice it until it squeaks. The issuer’s own ETF centre markets BulletShares as “cost-effective, tax-efficient tools for maximizing your investments,” which is accurate only if you define “maximizing” as “not losing more than the average ETF investor.”

If you want a bond ladder in a single wrapper, the issuer will happily sell you one; if you want to know which rungs are rotten, you’ll need a ladder of your own. The fund’s holdings read like a who’s-who of corporate America’s A-rated fortress balance sheets, but the concentration risk is real: the top ten issuers can account for north of 40% of the portfolio, which is the bond-market version of putting all your eggs in the basket labelled “Too Big To Fail.” The issuer’s marketing copy is polished, the fund is plain, and the difference is the entire joke.

The fund’s SEC EDGAR filing confirms the mandate and structure, but the filing doesn’t supply a single portfolio holding name or weight, so the reader is left staring at a wrapper labelled “2028” without knowing which bonds are inside. The issuer’s newsroom repeats the same boilerplate about Invesco Distributors, Inc. acting as US distributor for retail products and 529 plans, which proves the plumbing exists but not what’s flowing through it. The fund tracks the Bloomberg US Corporate Bond 2027-2030 Index, a benchmark whose name is already two years old and whose contents are locked behind a paywall that most retail investors won’t climb. TradingView shows daily price history, but the chart rail doesn’t supply holdings or issuer disclosures, so the graph is a price-only pageant that hides the bonds behind the curtain.

Methodology

This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
