Arq Inc. likes to describe itself as a diversified environmental technology company with products that remove harmful chemicals and pollutants from water, land, and air while actively reducing environmental impact. The website even shows glossy images of activated carbon powders and claims revolutionary sustainability credentials. Yet the latest 10-Q for the quarter ending 31 March 2026 tells a different story: the firm booked a net loss attributable to parent of $842,000, an operating loss of $982,000, and just $64,000 of net cash provided by operating activities. Cash on the balance sheet stood at $4.7 million, which is not enough to cover six months of negative operating cash flow, let alone the $19.9 million of inventory that grew by $3.3 million...

Arq Inc. markets itself as a diversified environmental technology company whose activated-carbon powders and additives remove contaminants from water, soil and air while reducing environmental impact. On paper the product range looks serious: Granular Activated Carbon, Powdered Activated Carbon, Colloidal Carbon Product and a suite of additives aimed at water treatment, groundwater remediation, soil sediments, air emissions and asphalt modification. The company’s website and press material lean into the sustainability narrative with photographs of sleek powders and claims of groundbreaking environmental solutions. Yet the latest 10-Q for the quarter ended 31 March 2026 tells a different story.

The filing shows the company generated a net loss attributable to parent of $842,000, an operating loss of $982,000 and just $64,000 of net cash provided by operating activities. Cash and cash equivalents at 31 March stood at $4.7 million, while inventory climbed to $19.9 million-an increase of $3.3 million in the quarter. Stockholders’ equity was $167.8 million, but liabilities were $64.3 million, leaving a thin equity cushion against a business that is still burning cash. Diluted loss per share was 2 cents on 41.7 million weighted average shares outstanding. In short, the sustainability pitch is running on empty.

On 23 July the company filed an 8-K noting that the CEO exercised options for 250,000 shares and immediately sold them, raising proceeds that would cover roughly 40 days of current operating cash burn. The same day a director filed a Form 4 showing the acquisition of 50,000 shares, creating optics that look less like conviction and more like a liquidity event. Research and development expense for the quarter was $982,000-virtually identical to the operating loss-suggesting the company is spending on innovation without yet seeing the commercial returns.

Arq’s products are real and are positioned across water treatment, groundwater remediation, soil sediments, air emissions and asphalt additives, according to the company’s own product and applications pages. The company’s messaging highlights activated carbon technologies as “revolutionising sustainability,” but the evidence that matters is the cash-flow waterfall, which is currently running uphill. The filing evidence shows the business model has products and applications but has not yet generated enough cash to cover its costs.

The tension is visible in the numbers: positive equity on the balance sheet versus negative operating cash flow, rising inventory against thin cash, and insider liquidity events within days of each other. What the sustainability slide deck promises and what the 10-Q reveals are not the same thing. Until the operating cash-flow line turns positive, the company’s environmental claims remain marketing promises, not financial facts.

The company’s investor relations site and press-release archive confirm that Arq reported first-quarter 2026 results, but the detailed figures above come from the 10-Q and the 8-K filed on 23 July 2026. The product and applications pages describe what the company sells, while the filings describe what the company collected. The gap between the two is the story.

Methodology

This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
