What changed for Alkermes plc. today
Alkermes plc will report second-quarter results on 28 July 2026 after quietly terminating its authorised generic supply agreement with Amneal Pharmaceuticals on 6 July, an about-face buried in an 8-K filed two days later. The move follows a 15 June press release in which the company touted orphan-drug designations for alixorexton, an oral orexin-2 agonist in mid-stage trials for narcolepsy type 1, narcolepsy type 2 and idiopathic hypersomnia. The company’s pipeline slide is still on rotation, but the latest quarterly filing shows the maths have not yet caught up with the narrative.
Alkermes is a biopharma outfit that designs, manufactures and commercialises medicines for central nervous system disorders. Its marketed products include ARISTADA (aripiprazole lauroxil) for schizophrenia, VUMERITY (prolonged-release capsules of sodium oxybate) for narcolepsy, and a pipeline of prodrugs aimed at sleep-wake and psychiatric conditions. The company likes to describe itself as a ‘commercial-stage biotech’; the numbers prefer the term ‘loss-making biotech’ until alixorexton or another asset proves otherwise.
According to the 10-Q for the quarter ended 31 March 2026, Alkermes booked $392.9 million in revenue, booked an operating loss of $48.3 million and a net loss of $66.5 million, good for a 40-cent diluted loss per share on 166.2 million shares. Cash and equivalents stood at $351.6 million, while operating cash flow was negative $165.7 million and capex clocked in at $4.1 million. The company spent $103.3 million on research and development, up from the prior quarter, and inventory rose by $6.4 million to $336.7 million, a figure the company describes as ‘strategic’ rather than ‘stuck’. Total assets were $4.26 billion against liabilities of $2.51 billion, leaving shareholders’ equity at $1.75 billion. (source: 10-Q, period ending 2026-03-31, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1520262/000119312526219010/alks-20260630x10q.htm)
The company’s research focus is on orexin modulation, prodrug chemistry and long-acting injectables. Alkermes presented detailed positive results from the Vibrance-2 Phase 2 study of alixorexton in adults with narcolepsy type 2 at SLEEP 2026, an academic conference where the company’s slides were prettier than its cash flow. The orphan-drug designations for NT1, NT2 and IH are regulatory nods that buy time but do not guarantee reimbursement, approval or blockbuster sales. The company’s press office is busy curating patient stories, a laudable PR move that does not alter the quarterly P&L.
The June 2026 termination of the Amneal authorised generic supply agreement is the third publicly disclosed pivot in twelve months for a company that has spent years promising a scalable platform. The 8-K uses the phrase ‘mutual agreement’, which in plain English means ‘the deal collapsed and neither side is naming the reason’. The company’s next earnings call on 28 July will need to explain how a pipeline narrative converts into cash flow when the partnership pipeline has just been rerouted. (source: ALKS 8-K (2026-07-08), https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1520262/000119312526298004/alks-20260706.htm)
The filing trail in July is busier than a commuter train at rush hour: four Form 4 filings on 1 July, another four on 6 July, plus an 8-K and a 144 within the same 48-hour window. That cadence suggests either frenetic activity or a compliance clean-up; it does not suggest imminent blockbuster approvals. The company’s Form 4 entries show directors and officers receiving equity awards at prices above the current market, an optics problem that governance consultants will happily monetise. The company’s official image library offers a glossy shot of a beaming employee with the caption ‘featured investor news’, an artefact that belongs in a pitch deck rather than a loss-making income statement. If you need a chart, the company’s ticker trades on Nasdaq under ALKS; the renderer carries a route to TradingView’s ALKS chart context. The company has not supplied analyst estimates, valuation commentary or formal guidance in the evidence pack; the next hard numbers arrive on 28 July. Until then, the file is a filing story, not a price story.

Methodology
This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
