Institutional Market Wit ● Sourced Research File

The hottest thing in AI this week isn't some silicon-valley moonshot or a central bank's white-paper ballet; it's a three-letter ticker-AIQD-that promises to make you short artificial intelligence without actually having to shout at a terminal all day. The fund's name is already half the marketing budget: MicroSectors -3 Short Artificial Intelligence. Translation: borrow three times the inverse of whatever the broad AI equity index does, and hope the robots don't unionise before expiry. Nasdaq lists it, so you can scream-sell it at 2 p.m. on a Wednesday if the S&P 500 decides to name-check Nvidia again. The filing paper trail is paper-thin on the fund page, which is perfect because the last thing you want is a 10-K to distract from the real business...

MicroSectors -3× Short Artificial Intelligence ETN (AIQD) is the ETF equivalent of a short-selling subscription service: you get daily -3× inverse exposure to an unnamed basket of AI equities, and you pay 1.15% a year for the privilege of doing so. The fund trades on Nasdaq, so its liquidity is whatever the screen displays at 2 p.m., and its holdings are whatever the issuer chooses to disclose, which so far is nothing public. The issuer’s marketing is all theme and no basket, while the SEC filing is all receipt and no recipe.

AIQD’s mandate is simple on paper and slippery in practice: track the inverse, three-times concentrated daily performance of an AI equity index that isn’t named in the public filings. The fund’s expense ratio sits at 1.15%, which is cheaper than most hedge-fund-of-funds but pricier than a year of Spotify Premium. The issuer’s website and SEC filings do not disclose the index’s constituents, concentration limits, or tracking error, so investors are left trusting that “artificial intelligence equities” means something consistent rather than whatever the quant model woke up and decided to hate today.

The SEC EDGAR search for AIQD yields only the fund’s registration statement and periodic filings, neither of which lists the underlying index or its methodology. Nasdaq’s market page confirms the ticker is live and tradeable, but offers no insight into the basket’s composition or the fund’s tracking accuracy. The FINRA Fund Analyzer confirms the 1.15% expense ratio and flags the fund as an ETN, meaning it’s a debt instrument of the issuer rather than a traditional ETF, so credit risk sits alongside the daily reset risk. In short, the only thing you’re guaranteed is that you’ll pay the fee whether the robots win or lose.

The fund’s pitch reads like a billionaire tweetstorm: “Short the AI boom.” The execution looks like a daily rebalancing statement and a 1.15% toll booth. If the index stumbles, AIQD is supposed to gallop higher; if the index soars, AIQD is supposed to sink like a brick in a swimming pool. The problem is that “supposed to” is not a filing, and neither is “trust us.”

On the Nasdaq listing page, AIQD’s recent volume and spread are visible, but the page does not name the index, its weights, or the fund’s tracking error. The SEC filings do not fill the gap. The issuer’s marketing materials do not either. What you do get is a daily reset that compounds losses faster than a VC’s slide deck, and a fee that compounds faster than compound interest in a bull market.

The fund’s structure is an ETN, so it’s not a traditional ETF; it’s a senior unsecured debt note of the issuer. That means if the issuer wobbles, your exposure wobbles with it. The issuer’s credit quality isn’t disclosed in the public filings we can see, and the fund’s AUM isn’t either. The only numbers the public record shows are the 1.15% fee and the Nasdaq ticker page. The rest is marketing theatre and regulatory receipts.

Methodology

This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
