What changed for American International Group, Inc. today
American International Group reported $6.65 billion in revenues for the quarter ending March 31, 2026, yet the cash that actually flowed through the business-net cash provided by operating activities-was $155 million. That is not a typo; it is an accounting feature. The insurer’s assets stood at $161.54 billion, but $121.11 billion of that pile is liabilities, leaving stockholders’ equity at $40.41 billion and earnings per diluted share at $1.41 for the quarter. The balance sheet is solid, the headline number is legal, but the operating cash tells the story the glossy brochure leaves out.
AIG is a sprawling property-and-casualty and life insurer with a management desks that likes to talk about strategic adjacencies. In February 2026 it forked out $2.1 billion for a 35% stake in Convex Group Limited, a specialty insurer, and a 9.9% slice of Onex Corporation, an asset manager. The Convex cheque alone is larger than AIG’s first-quarter operating cash flow; the Onex toe-dip is a minority bet in a different sandbox. Neither deal changes the fact that the business must still collect premiums, pay claims, and keep the lights on.
In the filing room, AIG quietly recast its segment reporting in Q1 2026, shifting amortisation of intangibles from General Insurance into Other Operations. The move does not alter cash, but it does shift reported profits into a bucket where analysts are less likely to poke. Revenues were $6.65B, net income attributable to parent was $3.10B for the year to December 31 2025, diluted EPS was $1.41 for the quarter, and diluted shares outstanding averaged 542.2 million. The cash from operations line, however, stayed stubbornly low at $155 million. That is the operating reality behind the polished numbers.
The board is also busy signing cheques it cannot immediately cash. Directors’ deferred stock units are contractually settled 1:1 in AIG shares on the last trading day of the month they leave, unless they opt to defer vesting. Every new share issued to a departing director simply shuffles the diluted-share deck without adding capital, which is the opposite of the buyback optics the press release promises. The management spectacle writes the script, but the balance sheet signs the cheques.
If you want to watch the moving parts, the SEC EDGAR company facts JSON is the clearest map of the XBRL tags in play, while the submissions JSON shows the recent 10-Q and 10-K filings in one place. Neither document contains a crystal ball, but they do contain the numbers that matter.
For colour on how the board wraps the optics, the gallery of director Form 4 filings from July 2 2026 spells out the 1:1 share settlement mechanics for every DSU. The punchline is that the equity settlement enriches departing board members without necessarily enriching the equity story itself.

Methodology
This profile is generated daily from public sources including SEC EDGAR (US-listed companies), NASDAQ Trader files, exchange listings, public macro/central-bank releases, CoinGecko crypto market files where relevant, and the TradingView global symbol catalog. Multi-model AI may assist drafting and review where configured, but sources remain the evidence rail; the chart is an Atlas static OHLC rail with a live TradingView link when verified bars are available; otherwise the page keeps the verified TradingView route as an explicit fallback.
